Exercise and rehabilitation therapy and prescriptions

An assessment is preformed of the injury, and a specific prescription of exercises is provided to the patient.  Included are sometimes pictures, and explanation sessions.  These exercises are pre-dominantly preformed at home with occasional office visits to make sure they are being preformed correctly.  The benefits of rehabilitation is an increase in healing, flexibility, strength and prevention of further injury.

Spinal and non-spinal joint manipulation

Joint manipulation increases the flexibility and range of motion in the joint. It breaks down scar tissue, improves blood flow, stretches muscles, speeds healing can decrease pain and muscle tone. These benefits may result in the slowing of the natural degenerative changes which affect joints as we age.

Spinal and non-spinal joint mobilization

Joint mobilization is a way to gently move the joint through a range of pain-free motion in order to improve flexibility and blood flow. A joint that has been mobilized moves more freely and with less pain.

Muscle Release technique and soft tissue stretching

The muscle release technique is an extremely effective technique for decreasing muscle pain, and increasing flexibility.  It is extremely precise and immediately effective. Stretching muscles and connective tissues increases ranges of motion in the areas that have been stretched. Improved blood flow, less scar tissue, repairing of damaged and torn muscle and tendon fibres, and less pain are just some of the many benefits of this therapy.

Orthotic Therapy and Compression Stockings

Prescription orthotics are very popular medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot impairment, they range from plantar fasciitis to a collapsed arch. Orthotics work on the feet the same way that braces work on the teeth-by exerting gentle consistent pressure to provide foot muscles and bones proper support and alignment.
Compression stockings and socks can help reduce everyday strain on your busy legs. Graduated compression helps to pump blood back up to your heart – improving circulation!  Also, they are commonly used to help prevent/minimize varicose veins and patients prone to leg swelling and blood clots.  These stocking are available for both men and women.

Needle and Electroacupuncture

Provides therapeutic benefit by facilitating the activity of the body’s natural healing mechanisms, thus restoring normal sensation and function to an area of imbalance. Acupuncture also has tremendous analgesic (pain relieving) effects. At the clinic, there are trained professionals who are able to provide Contemporary Acupuncture or Traditional Chinese Acupunture.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound as a treatment modality that has been used by therapists over the last 50 years to treat soft tissue injuries.  Ultrasound therapy increases blood flow in the treated area which speeds the healing process. Ultrasound Therapy reduces swelling and inflammation which are the main sources of pain. Ultrasound waves gently massage the muscles, tendons and/or ligaments in the treated area. This enhances the recovery rate of damaged tissue without adding strain, and softens any scar tissue that is usually present in an injured area.

Interferential Current

Since Interferential Therapy has been in use for many years, its effectiveness is well documented. Studies have shown that patients using Interferential Therapy after surgery develop fewer post-op complications than those relying solely on narcotics for pain relief. Interferential Therapy aids in circulation, decreasing the recovery time for patients. Multiple treatments will typically speed the patient’s recovery and allow earlier resumption of their normal lifestyle.
